My latest commission - Bus Driver Pinup!

Presented for your consideration; my newest commissioned illustration.  After an appreciative fan saw my Working Girls series, I was hired to create a custom pinup illustration as a birthday gift for his girlfriend.  Now that she's received her gift, I can share her pinup with the rest of you!

BTW, I'm available to do commissions at the moment, either pinups or any other sort of illustration, animation or concept sketch.  Just drop me a line anytime!

CTN Expo was a blast!

Just got back from the annual animation gathering (and highlight of my year) CTN Expo in Burbank!  Not being one to make a lot of posts to my blog while on the go (what does this blog look like, twitter?!) I finally have a chance to post my thoughts on the overwhelming-but-fun convention that comes but once a year.

CTN has become almost a "family reunion" of sorts, a chance to see friends and colleagues that I may keep touch with via Facebook but rarely get to spend time with face to face.  I think it's that and a lot more for many of us animation artists, both professional and aspiring.  Comic-Con long ago became an overwhelming orgy of all manner of pop culture, comics and animation seem almost secondary to all the big tentpole movie hype, cosplay, and toy & game exclusives.  None of that goes on at CTN (despite some feeble attempts by marketers to do so on occasion.)  This is a place, an ever-more-crowded place, for people who care about the art of animation and storytelling to learn, network, and party with their own kind.

It may only be three days a year, but in a way it is the longest weekend of the year.  I only wish it could take place in a venue that can accommodate all of us, the tents and small rooms just don't cut it anymore!  But for whatever frustrations and failings there may be, CTN still remains the best place to meet and learn from other animation artists.  I hope it continues to be the gathering it has been for a long time.

Getting set to go APE!

Well, the time has come for me to get back into the fray of comic conventions.  Yep, I'm going to be at the upcoming Alternative Press Expo (APE) con!  This year will be a bit different for me and a lot of my fellow artists, since Comic-Con International has transferred the ownership & operation of the convention back to Dan Vado, the fellow who first started APE over 20 years ago!  With that change, there has been a change of venue; APE will be held at the San Jose Convention Center on the weekend of October 3-4

My illustrations, books, stickers & tees (and me!) can be found at Table 237, right in the center of the convention hall.  Hope to see you there!

Ready for my first Big Wow Convention!

Next weekend is pretty exciting for me, as it will be both a new experience and a return to the familiar, as I exhibit for the first time at San Jose's Big Wow ComicFest! It's be a while since I've been on the convention floor, so it feels good to get ready for a return to showing and selling my stuff.  I will be sharing my table with my good friend Daria Drozdzal, who will be selling her artistic creations as well.

This convention will also be the first time I offer for sale my first published children's book, Homer's Big Adventure!

I illustrated author Rosemary Parker's sweet tale of her carved wooden Alaskan bear's "true life adventure" through the woods on a dark and windy night!  The book is also available online at: http://bookstore.xlibris.com/Products/SKU-0109928037/Homers-Big-Adventure.aspx

We'll be at Table Number 721I (eye)  Stop by anytime on Saturday May 17th or Sunday May 18th, and either Daria or I (or often both of us) will be there.  Hope to see you all there next weekend!

Onward to APE!

I've been neglecting this blog for a while, as I've been tied up with a freelance project. I just wanted to mention that this weekend I'll be at San Francisco's (apparently only) comics convention, APE! APE opens at 11:00AM Saturday Oct. 13th and Sunday Oct 14th in the Concourse Expo center in SOMA. I'll be selling my wares at Booth #765, near the entrance on the upper level. I'm looking forward to seeing both old and new friends, especially since I probably won't be exhibiting at WonderCon next year, since it's going to be in Anaheim again. What can I say, I'm a Bay Area kind of guy!

As always, if you can't make it to the Con, but would like to buy some of my tees, stickers or art prints, you can visit my Funkybat Store online at http://funkybat.bigcartel.com/

Hope to see you this weekend!
