The "Golden Arches" Rule of Acquisition: Hamburgers = Profit!

The greedy alien Ferengi of Star Trek meet the hamburger-burgling crook of McDonaldland in this new mashup design!  I was inspired by the VERY creepy-looking early versions of the Hamburglar from the 1970s, when he at various times resembled: Killer BOB from Twin Peaks, a backalley pervert flasher, and a member of the Ferengi!  I went with the least-offensive but most creepy of the three!

Enjoy this gallery of cursed Hamburglars of yore for reference:

Elon the Vampire Bat Bleeds Dry Another Victim

Twitter is a hellscape, so I am not exactly going to mourn it's new undead status.  But just when I thought that place couldn't get worse.....

In the meantime, as long as this digital cancer still exists, feel free to follow my Twitter! @Funkybat1

A tasty blast from the past - Mister Donut sign

Howdy Funkybat pals, take a gander at my latest creation: a tribute to a dear departed favorite treat from my childhood, Mister Donut.  The "brother-in-law" of Dunkin' Donuts, This fried dough-dishing fella was felled by his more famous relation nigh 30-odd years ago.  But the retro coolness factor will always belong to Mister Donut!

This illustration is really just a warm-up to a full depiction of an entire Mister Donut store building that I am still in progress on.  For now, enjoy this jaunty sign, which will be available in limited quantities from my Etsy store soon after WonderCon has concluded.  If you just can't wait to get a print, head over to Anaheim this weekend and grab one from my table (D-55).

Battle of the Bay Art Show 2019 - In Matts We Trust

This year, I was honored to be selected among many entrants to participate in the annual Battle of the Bay Art Show held during the Oakland Athletics vs. San Francisco Giants "Bay Bridge Series."  My entry to the show is in honor of the awesome 3rd and 1st basemen on the A's, both named Matt!  Matt Chapman and Matt Olson are a virtually unstoppable combo on both offense and defense, so I wanted to combine my love of the A's and my fondness for themed design. This was a fun event, and I hope to participate again next season!

(Update: As of the final day of the Bay Series, I was excited to learn that my framed print was sold to a fan!  Proceeds will be split between myself and the A's & Giants' Community Funds!)

A new addition to my Funkybat domain - Instagram!

The Orville - Stickers and Buttons

These new sticker designs pay tribute to my favorite new sci-fi show of the past couple of years, Seth MacFarlane's The Orville!  After being sorely disappointed by the tone, storytelling, and design choices in the lamentable Star Trek: Discovery series, The Orville has been a welcome and familiar-feeling respite from all the grimdark and bad drama.  Seth and his team have captured the look & feel of the Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager era, but found new angles on familiar Trek tropes.  It's also nice to see a comedic angle to a space opera, a genre that often takes itself too seriously.

This second design is a call to action for all Orville fans who miss Lt. Alara Kitan as much as I do!  Her replacement (Talla) is great in her own way, but I hope Alara returns to the show in the coming season(s).  #bringbackalara

These Stickers and Buttons will be for sale at my booth at WonderCon in Anaheim, CA, March 29th-31st!

The Real-life Mister Mxyzptlk!

It occurred to me, as I've watched the continuous disaster I call the "Trumpocalypse", that the dirty trickster Roger Stone reminded me of someone in fiction.  I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but his impish glee at causing chaos, with seemingly no agenda (other than helping the right wing and pissing off anyone with a sense of decency) all felt very familiar.

Then, it came to me.

Introducing Mr. Nixstoneptlyk!
